What we do
Lloret de Mar City Council used Civiciti to start a Participatory Budgeting process. Over 500.000€ were made available to public discussion for Lloret de Mar citizens over 16 years old. It provided a way for the local government to improve engagement, credibility, trust and participation. The process was conducted following phases, such as citizen engagement and proposition, proposal selection, secure voting and monitoring.
For the inhabitants, including an online participation and cooperation tool in the structures of their city council enabled them to develop the habit of deliberating on issues that were a direct concern to them and also improving their public decision-making. In this way, when the administration requests citizen’s collaborative efforts in aspects of public domain in the future, participation will be easier and more efficient.
This participation project was the reflection of a developed government, which unites citizens and public collectives in policy decision-making and helps enhancing their transparency.
Our social impact
Lloret de Mar City Council was aiming for a process of democratic deliberation and decision-making in which its citizens could decide how to allocate part of its municipal budget. The objective was intended to be achieved through a Participatory budgeting process so Lloret de Mar inhabitants could identify, discuss, and vote for public spending proposals.
