Bob

Bob leverages big data to help people find good work at scale.

Bob leverages big data to help people find good work at scale.

What we do

By using data-driven technologies, Bob brings tailored support to the millions of individuals who are or will be at risk of unemployment and underemployment.

Our aim is to provide a solution that increases our beneficiaries’ chances of finding a job. Since launching in October 2016, Bob has provided coaching to more than 170,000 jobseekers.

We measure our results every day: 89% of users are satisfied with Bob, saying they find our advice interesting, useful or very useful, and 43% of our beneficiaries who recovered a job three months after using Bob report that our advice was determinant in helping them land their job.

Every week, our team receives dozens of thank-you letters with personal stories from people whose lives have been positively impacted by Bob. This is our biggest achievement to date.

As a digital platform driven by data analytics, Bob is highly replicable and adaptable to specific labour market conditions. We combine the agility of a small structure with the scale of impact of a government organization.

Our social impact

Millions of jobseekers are hampered in their job search by lack of access to labour market information and personalised job search guidance. This complexifies and slows down their job recovery process, generates frustration and confusion, damages self-confidence, and strongly decreases their chances of finding the right job for their skills and aspirations.

A traditional approach to this problem is to provide job-seekers with in-person counseling, The focus on in-person counseling, both necessary and useful, may prove challenging and costly to scale at times of increased levels of unemployment, notably as the labour market goes through rapid transformation driven by technological change, impacting skills requirements and jobs’ definition.

Our goal within the next five years is to provide free, personalized and relevant employability coaching to 1.5 million people. To achieve this, we want to scale and deploy our solution in new countries - we have received several expressions of interest -  and be able to tailor our recommendations to the specificities of an increasing number of labour markets.

We think Bob’s success can be replicated elsewhere in the world. To scale the model, it would take data and distribution partnerships within the ecosystem, in particular with public employment agencies.
