A Brief Introduction to Hawaiian Decorative Flowers
Hawaii locals have been taking advantage of the area's nearly perfect climate in order to appreciate local flowers and traditional leis, making them the envy of many a mainlander. Today, though, even residents of the continental United States can enjoy the beauty of Hawaiian Flowers. Before placing an order for delivery to the mainland, it's worth taking a look at the flower guide below to see what blooms would be best suited for a particular set of leis or other flower arrangements.
A Variety of Orchids
The With Our Aloha Hawaiian flower guide boasts several varieties of orchids. These include Dendrobium orchids, Phalaenopsis orchids, Cattleya orchids, Paphiopedilum orchids, Cymbidium orchids, Oncidium orchids, and many hybrids. Some of these beautiful flowers are native to Hawaii, while others hail from Asia, New Zealand, and elsewhere across the world. All, however, are available to the company's customers.
Those who are not in the know probably don't realize that ginger comes in many varieties and provides beautiful, tasteful blooms. Those on offer include Red and Pink ginger, Torch ginger, Costus ginger, and Fragrant ginger.
Protea plants are not native to Hawaii, but they do grow well in the area. The flowers range in size from the large King protea through the long and feathery Mink protea down to the delicate Pincushion protea. All of these varieties make a unique addition to just about any flower arrangement, although not all of them are appropriate for use in leis.
Banksia are local to Australia and come in a wide variety of shades and shapes. Most flowers are either red or green, and they can grow on both shrubs and trees.
The leucadendron is more commonly known by its colloquial name: Safari Sunset. Its dark red flowers grow on bushes and resemble rose buds in shape.
This family of flowers consists of over 200 different types of bloom. Many are natives of South America, and all are tropical. Several of the most popular varieties of heliconia flowers are the Upright heliconia, the Tropic Fleur heliconia, the Psitticorum heliconia, and the Pendant heliconia.
There are more than 1000 varieties of anthurium flowers, and this diverse family of plants comprises the most cultivated decorative flower in the state. The most recognizable part of any anthurium is not its flower itself, but the bract from which its flowers will emerge. Commonly cultivated varieties include the Obake anthurium and the tulip anthurium.
Bird of Paradise
This classic tropical bloom is a must have for Hawaiian flower arrangements. Sometimes known as the crane flower, this large and showy bloom is native to South America but proliferates across tropical climates around the world.
