DSI4EU is being supported by an Advisory Board of experts from across Europe, who are providing us with feedback, support, expertise and access to networks all over the continent. Read on to find out more about the members of the Advisory Board, listed here in alphabetical order.
Elena Calistru is the chair and founder of Funky Citizens, a Romanian-based NGO. Funky Citizens builds research-based, data-driven advocacy tools. Funky Citizens’ tools aim to be educational and actionable, encouraging citizens to engage in accountability and government responsibility initiatives in which they can see an impact. Elena has more than 10 years of experience in civil society projects, both at national and international level. Her expertise is mainly in the area of good governance, transparency, public finance and advocacy. She strongly believes that data and online tools can empower citizens to influence public sector reform.
Julia Kloiber is the co-founder of the Prototype Fund and Code for Germany. She develops strategies and concepts to innovate programs for the digital world. She has been running multiple projects that foster the reuse of open data and promote transparency and open source. She has put her expertise in technology, design and media studies to use for the Open Knowledge Foundation Germany and as Consultant for The Engine Room. Since April 2018 she has been a Senior Fellow at Mozilla where she will be investigating emerging technologies and their influence on society.
Sandor Lederer is the Co-Founder and CEO of K-Monitor, a non-profit public funds watchdog based in Budapest. The NGO was founded to improve the levels of transparency and the rule of law in Hungary. Civic participation and technology driven solutions are among the organizations key instruments. Beside K-Monitor’s tech focus, the organization is also active in anti-corruption advocacy and research. One of the recent projects K-Monitor has been working on is redflags.eu, a program that uses algorithmic indicators to analyse risky public procurements.
Clémence serves as Head of Digital and Citizen Engagement for C40. She leads on C40’s digital communications strategy based on innovative campaigns, governance tools and citizen engagement to grow and strengthen C40’s online community. In this capacity, Clemence builds and maintains strong relationships with C40 Mayors, digital advocates, civic and tech startups, and other key influencers. Prior to joining C40, Clémence was the Digital Director during Anne Hidalgo's Campaign in Paris and served as the Digital Strategy and Open Governance Advisor to Mayor Hidalgo where she oversaw the participatory budget innovation from its inception to its current status as the most ambitious and efficient in the world.
Rebecca is Head of Research for international digital development NGO mySociety. Rebecca holds a PhD in politics and governance, and has worked actively as a researcher for many years. Previously managing the work of the Wales Governance Centre and lecturing in Politics at Cardiff University, Rebecca was responsible for the development and establishment of mySociety’s research agenda, and has spoken widely on the impacts of civic technology both at practitioner and academic conferences. Rebecca has written several respected research reports on civic technology, and has articles on politics, governance and civic tech published in a number of peer-reviewed journals. In 2016, Rebecca won the ‘Best Paper Award’ at the Conference for eDemocracy and Open Government, and currently serves as Co-Chair of the OGRX Editorial Board.
Anna Seravalli is a senior lecturer and design researcher at The School of Arts and Communication Malmö University. She has a background as product and service designer and holds a PhD in Design and Social Innovation. In her research, she closely collaborates with citizens, NGOs, civil servants and small entrepreneurs in the city of Malmö to explore questions of participation, collaboration, decision-making in initiatives aiming at improving environmental and social sustainability in the urban context. She is particularly interested in initiatives related to making, upcycling and alternative production practices. She is the coordinator of Malmö University DESIS Lab.
Anna is responsible for the strategic direction of the TechSoup Europe Network that consists of 24 capacity-building organizations, and serves over 400,000 registered NGOs, with over a billion-euro delivered in technology tools and philanthropic services. Her background includes employability, social enterprises, social and digital inclusion, civic technology, as well as development of friendly policies and legal environment for civil society. Anna holds master degrees in both Law and Economy and Society from Warsaw and Lancaster Universities respectively. She was a member on the Minister of Labour’s Public Benefit Work Council and the Polish Prime Minister’s Social Economy Task Force in Poland (under D. Tusk’s administration).
Mieke van Heesewijk is program manager at SIDN Fund, an independent foundation that provides financial support for projects aimed at innovation for the Internet. Since her time at XS4ALL, Mieke has been active as policy adviser for Internet Participation at the Ministry of the Interior, program developer at Waag Society, and co-director of the Network Democracy Foundation. Mieke is a committee member at the Internet Society Netherlands and founder and board member of the whistleblowing platform Publeaks.nl and a member of the supervisory board of WPG publishers.
Christian Villum’s work as Programme Director at the Danish Design Centre examining new ideas related to technology and design thinking. With a background in maker technology, new business models, sharing cultures, open data and open design, internet culture and hacktivism, he enjoys developing communities and bringing people together to share new ideas and generate change. His work explores future currents in technology from a design perspective, and includes, among other things, programs for new open source business models for manufacturing, establishment of global Fab Cities and human-centric approaches to technology. Christian’s previous work includes co-founding and heading the experimental Platform4 Art & Technology hub, being a frontrunner in the use of Creative Commons content licenses, building global communities for the UK-based non-profit organisation Open Knowledge Foundation and initiating a wide range of companies and projects.
